The Bungalows at Retreat by Homestead Modern — Joshua Tree, California
What it’s all about: Fourteen restored mid-century cottages nestled in a spiritual retreat environment, less than 10 minutes from Joshua Tree’s west entrance.
The 152-acre Joshua Tree Retreat Center, where the Bungalows sit, is home to the largest collection of buildings ever designed by Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Bungalows themselves were built in 1960 by another mid-century modernist, Harold Zook, and were initially intended as housing for the center’s resident teachers.
