A Warm Welcome From The Desert

At Homestead Modern, the company I founded in 2015, we are today launching our first e-newsletter to update our friends and clients about our current activities and future plans.

I hope you find this information of interest but, if not, just click here to remove your name from our contact list and we promise not to pester you again!

As you likely know, the High Desert communities adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park are experiencing a profound boom — driven, at least in part, by an explosive growth in the number of visitors to the national park. And Homestead Modern is playing an ever larger role in that phenomena.

We have significant activities in four arenas:

  • Managing short-term vacation rental properties

  • Building new homes of our own designs for clients

  • Renovating existing homes that then come into our managed portfolio

  • Helping investors find attractive ways to engage in the local economy.

If we can help in any of those areas, let us know.

JUST FOR FUN...

Since I know most of you personally, I thought we’d start this note with something fun that recently involved me. Last week my home in the High Desert was the subject of an article in the New York Times’ Style Section.

I spent that last two years renovating this marvelous old homestead cabin in the High Desert and it was gratifying to have a journalistic entity of the Times’ calibre salute what I have done. I hope you can all come visit me in this magical place one day soon.

LESS IS MORE...

Jurisdictions throughout California are loosening their minimum square footage requirements for single-family residences, and the County of San Bernardino is no exception. We are taking advantage of that by partnering with an investor to test this new market.

This month we will break ground on a project that will see construction of two, 560-square-foot single-family residences on two adjacent five-acre parcels in Joshua Tree.

As you can see, this is basically a studio apartment — open bedroom, living, dining and kitchen. We believe it will be readily embraced in the High Desert short-term vacation rental market (Airbnbs) when they come on line around February 1.

NEW HOME UNDER CONSTRUCTION...

Construction is well underway on this HM1200 (1,200 square feet) home that we are building for a client.

There are many interesting details about this particular project. Look for details in our next note.

HOMESTEAD MODERN SUPPER CLUB DINNERS...

This spring we held a series of outdoor chef-catered dinners to help introduce our friends to the surprisingly rich social fabric available here in the desert — as well as to show that fine dining is possible even here!

Two more such events are scheduled this fall. The dinner on October 19 is sold out. But tickets are still available for the event on November 16. Click here to read details about that event — and to buy tickets.
